I Tried 9 Cute Nintendo Switch Accessories (Were They Worth It?)

I bought my Switch in 2019 specifically to play Stardew Valley, and I have not once accessorized it in the seven years of owning it.
But a few weeks ago, something changed. I decided to try nine of the cutest Nintendo Switch accessories I could find, and honestly, the 3DS girl in me has been waiting for this moment for a very long time.
Cases, thumb grips, a mystery box, and even a full custom build. I tested all of them, and I have a lot of thoughts. Here's my honest breakdown of everything.

1. GeekShare Hello Miffy Holo Case
Note: this case was sold out at the time of publishing.
The first thing I unboxed was the GeekShare Hello Miffy holo case. It's a snap-on protective case designed for the Nintendo Switch, and this one is so adorable. It's bright, cheerful, and it even includes a little stand. I love everything about this design. The colors are so vivid, and it somehow reminds me of kindergarten. I think it's because it's so cute!
But here's where things got a little complicated.
When I sat down to actually put it on my Switch, I could not get it to fit. I tried different angles, different ways of putting it on, and nothing worked. I noticed there was about 1-2 centimeters of extra length on the case that was preventing it from snapping into place. I thought maybe I had ordered the wrong size, but I double-checked my order and it was correct.
So I reached out to GeekShare to ask about a return or exchange. Their first response was a $5 compensation offer. That honestly bummed me out, because their website clearly states you can return or exchange within 30 days. So I pushed back and asked again.
I decided to sleep on it and come back the next morning with a fresh mindset. And that morning, I thought to try it on my OLED Switch instead.
And guess what?! It snapped in perfectly! Turns out this case is actually made for the OLED model, not the standard Switch. The front of the box says "For Switch" in big letters, but there's tiny print on the back that reads "NS OLED." It's genuinely confusing, and I feel for anyone else who might have ordered this without realizing it.
The good news is that GeekShare did honor my exchange request once I followed up a second time. So if this ever happens to you, know that you may need to push back a little. Ask again if they offer you the $5 first.
With that resolved, I set the Miffy case aside and moved on to the next one…because this one is my absolute favorite of everything I ordered.
2. GeekShare Plush Bear Protective Case + PlayVital Bear Thumb Grips

The GeekShare Plush Bear Protective Case is a soft, fluffy snap-on case with a teddy-bear texture, and the moment I saw it online, I knew I had to have it.
It reminded me immediately of a phone case I had years ago when I had the iPhone 6. It was a literally a teddy bear case that I named Rupert. And he was a show stopper everywhere I went!
When I used to work at Ulta, one of my co-workers started calling me "hilda bear" because of him. And what's funny is that my best friend in high school use to call me that too. So that nickname has followed me through every chapter of my life, and now you know the origin of the hildabear club.
I wanted to create a little army of teddies who are multi-dimensional nerds. People who love gaming and reading and all nerdy hobbies! And this case just reminded me exactly why I started the hildabear club.

I paired it with bear-shaped thumb grips from PlayVital, since GeekShare was out of stock on theirs. The combo is so unbelievably cute and it truly feels like you're holding a teddy bear. The texture is soft and comforting, and the thumb grips are also soft to the touch without getting in the way during gameplay. I am completely obsessed with how it turned out!
So at this point I had unboxed two cases, but I still had a mystery box waiting. And you know I love me a blind box.
3. GeekShare Peppermint Green Case (Mystery Box, Item 1)
When you order a mystery box...it's exactly what it sounds like.
You order it without knowing what's inside, and you find out when it arrives. I love that element of surprise. There were two cases inside this one, and the first one I pulled out was the GeekShare Peppermint Green Case, a solid pastel protective snap-on with a really clean, minimalist design.
I actually really like this one. The soft pastel tone is pretty, the matte finish feels modern and polished, and the whole vibe is very sleek. If you prefer a more understated look over character prints, this is a solid option.
The only thing I noticed was a small blemish on the back when I was putting it on. It looks like the top layer started rubbing off in one spot, shifting from matte to glossy in a small area. It's a minor thing, but something to keep an eye on with continued use.
And then I opened the second case from the mystery box, and this one completely caught surprised me!
4. GeekShare Nutcracker Case (Mystery Box, Item 2)

It was the GeekShare Nutcracker Case, a holiday-themed case with tiny little bears dressed as nutcrackers! So cute! I was not expecting this at all, and it made me realized that we're already halfway to the holidays, and I can't wait!
This one fit perfectly on my Switch, and the bear thumb grips I ordered to go with the plush bear case matched this one beautifully too. It all tied together in the most unexpected way, and the mystery box ended up being such a fun surprise overall.
Now, all four of these have been snap-on cases. Cute, decorative, something to make your Switch feel a little more personal.
But there was one thing that had always kept me from fully committing to the aesthetic case life, and that's the fact that I play docked almost all the time. None of these snap-ons are dockable. So when I came across a case that claimed to be, I had to try it.
5. PlayVital AlterGrips Dockable Hard Shell Case

The PlayVital AlterGrips Dockable Hard Shell Case was marketed as a dockable option, which already made it different from everything else I had ordered.
But when I opened the box, I realized right away that this was not going to be a quick snap-on situation. Inside was a tiny screwdriver, a set of replacement plates, button stickers, and a screen protector. This is a full customization build, and I honestly loved that. It felt like a little project!
I used it on my Animal Crossing Switch because the color scheme worked so well together. Applying the screen protector, swapping the plates, customizing the buttons. Once it was done, it gave off the most amazing retro-modern vibe. The color is vibrant, the quality feels really solid, and it just looks so cool!

The one thing I skipped was replacing the kickstand. I watched the tutorial on YouTube but could not figure out how to remove it, so I left it alone. Honestly, it still looks great without the swap.
But is it dockable? Unfortunately, no. And that's a real bummer because I love everything else about this build. The customization process is genuinely fun and the end result is beautiful. It's just too bad it won't dock.
So I had to come to terms with something: for players who live in docked mode, aesthetic cases are beautiful, but they're not going to be your practical everyday solution.

6 & 7. Luigi Carrying & Travel Case (Funlab)
Note: this exact Luigi case has since been discontinued. But FunLab still has the Mario version in the same style, in stock.

I've had my Luigi carrying cases for years. They were the very first Nintendo Switch accessories I ever bought, long before I ever thought about snap-ons or custom builds. And honestly, they're the reason I never felt like I needed anything else for so long.
The carring case is a hard-shell just for the Switch itself, with soft padding on the inside to keep it protected. It's perfect for shorter trips where you just want to grab your Switch and go.
Simple, functional, and it has never once let me down. But the set also comes in a larger size for those moments when you need to bring your entire setup with you.

The Luigi travel case fits everything inside: your dock, joy-cons, cables, and all of it. When Andrew and I were moving into our house, this is literally what I used to transport my Switch. Everything fit, it was padded, and nothing got damaged in the process.
If you're traveling long distance or moving and you need your full gaming setup with you, this is the one. They can both get a little bulky though, which is why I eventually added a slimmer option to my collection for certain trips.
But before I get to that, I have to tell you about my absolute favorite carrying case of all time. And it came with one of my favorite memories.
8. Pokémon Protection Case (Power A)

A couple of years ago, Andrew and I walked into the Nintendo Store in New York City. And while we were there, he bought me this super cute PowerA Pokémon Protection Case. I fell in love with it the moment I saw it on the shelf, and it's my go-to accessory ever since.
I use it for short road trips, trips to the park, and casual days out where I want to bring my Switch but don't need the full setup. It's a little bulky, but I love it so much that I genuinely don't mind. Some things just make you happy every time you pick them up, and this case is one of those things for me.
For longer trips, though, especially when I'm flying, I needed something that could slide into a carry-on bag without taking up too much space.
9. TomToc Slim Case
Note: the original Switch version of this case has since been discontinued. TomToc now makes a Nintendo Switch 2 version in the same slim style.

That's exactly where the TomToc slim case comes in.
It's significantly slimmer than the Luigi or Pokémon cases, which means it fits right into a carry-on bag or backpack without taking up much room at all.
It still has pockets for game cartridges, it slides into almost anything, and it just makes packing so much easier. For travel days where every inch of bag space matters, this compact design is exactly what you need.
I also put the Mario Wonder amiibos to the test earlier this month, if you're curious about other Nintendo accessories to add to your collection.
Final Thoughts
Okay, so after testing all nine of these, here's how I'd break it down, because it really does depend on how you play.
If you're a docked player like me, a carrying case is always going to be your best friend. I've been using mine for years and they have never let me down. You can pop your Switch in and you're ready to go, whether you're traveling, going on a road trip, or moving across town. You don't need four of them like I do. Just one good one, and you're set.
If you're chasing that 3DS nostalgia, that feeling of decorating something that feels uniquely yours, then the aesthetic cases are worth exploring. It really just comes down to your personal style.
For something sleek and modern, the PlayVital build is exceptional. The quality is really good, I love the color, and I love how it feels in your hands. It's just too bad it won't dock.
For something soft, cute, and completely adorable, the plush bear case from GeekShare is the show stopper. Holding it genuinely brings me joy, and the thumb grips add comfort without ever getting in the way.
One thing I do want you to keep in mind: the aesthetic cases are beautiful, but they're not going to protect your Switch the way a carrying case will. If you drop it or it gets tossed around in a bag, it might get damaged. So just think about what matters most to you. Aesthetic or functionality? There's no wrong answer. You just want to go in knowing which one fits your lifestyle.
I also want to be transparent about something. A few weeks ago, GeekShare reached out and asked if I wanted to try their products for free as part of a collaboration. I kindly declined because I had never used their products before and didn't want to commit without experiencing the full buying process myself. I asked if they could offer me a discount instead, which they agreed to.
So everything I shared today, I paid for with my own money. No strings attached. Because that's the only way I can be completely honest with you.
I do love their designs, but I'd like to spend more time with their cases before I could whole-heartedly recommend them. But so far? I'm obsessed with the plush bear, and I hope it holds up for years to come.
